More octane, (there's a limit) colder plug, less timing and adequate valve clearance. There are limits. You can raise the compression pressure to a point that even race gas will detonate. Detonation looks like the top of the piston was sandblasted in places.First you need to see what type sprocket comes on that clutch. A 10-tooth might be a #40, a 12-tooth might be a #35, etc. If you have yet to choose one, get one with a #35 sprocket, that's plenty for a 212, and #35 parts are more readily available.
